The past couple months since my CD release have been extremely busy, but I am lucky to say that I have done a lot of writing in between. I also had a few premieres last weekend, including the double-big band piece "Mighty Mo" (commissioned for Moravian College's 16th President Inauguration; co-written with Mike McAndrew), as well as 2 of my chamber pieces, "Polychromic Island" and "An Ocean Musing" (premiered at 2014 Composers Concert).
Also, I was featured as an electric guitar soloist to perform "Chaos Theory" by Jim Bonney for Wind Ensemble, which was a lot of fun! I gave out a bunch of free CDs and everyone seemed to have a good time.
Finally, I was awarded "Outstanding Soloist" at PA Jazz Idol this week, for my contribution to the performance of "Two of Us" by the Beatles. As part of the award, I will be performing at Mayfair 2014 in Allentown, PA, on-stage with an all-star septet of jazz musicians, Steve Rudolph, Marko Marcinko, Rick Chamberlain, Andy Warren, Alan Gaumer, & Neil Wetzel.
I am excited to say that my CD, Live 2014, is now available for free on soundcloud, youtube, and hard copies are also available from me. The CD features guitar arrangements of some of my original music and some of my arrangements of famous songs. If you would like a hard copy, feel free to reach out to me on the contact page!
Here is a full video of my performance of "Snow Bell," live at Moravian College, in January of this year. I wrote "Snow Bell" in 2013 and this performance features Krysti Nappi on flute and myself on guitar. Enjoy!!
Here is the first video from my concert a couple weeks ago! Enjoy, many more to come!
As a follow-up to my show at Moravian College on January 26th, I am excited to say that I will be releasing a free live album of the show by the end of February! The album will include all 7 songs performed that night; all instrumental music ranging from jazz and fusion arrangements to original compositions. I will also be putting live videos online. Check back soon for new music!
band: Chris Aguayo (guitar) Tony Gairo (tenor sax) Dave Fahim (piano/Rhodes) Paul Rostock (bass) Zach Martin (drums) Krysti Nappi (flute)
Come see live music and film compositions on sunday, January 26th at 4:00pm. I will be playing guitar at Moravian College's Foy Hall, leading a Jazz Quartet/Quintet. This show is going to be recorded live and will feature some the areas most in-demand musicians. For more info, visit
My composition for flute and guitar, "Snow Bell" premiered this month in the Moravian Christmas Vespers prelude music. Over the course of 6 nights, the music was heard by thousands. It featured flute soloist Krysti Nappi and the Moravian College Guitar Ensemble, directed by John Arnold. Krysti and I will be playing this piece as a flute and electric guitar duo in my concert on January 26th, 2014, which will be recorded live and posted online in the months to come!
I will be playing in Foy Hall Jan 26, 2014 with a handful of other musicians in the area. The show will feature a few of my compositions, film scores, and jazz standards. It is free and starts at 4:00pm. Hope to see you there!
My friend Aaron Richman released his debut instrumental album on May 9th 2013. I had the honor to compose and perform on guitar and bass for the album. Take a listen on my playlist to a few of the songs or click the link above to download the full CD!
Last night I was lucky enough to be a part of Moravian's Gala Film Night, directed by Australian composer Sean O'Boyle. My short film, entitled "Space Warriors" won the pro tools award for music production and technology incorporated into my score. I would like to thank Sean O'Boyle for his constant support as a teacher and mentor. It was an honor to share the night with other great composers as well.
Last month, Don't You Worry peaked at #1 for almost a month. I would like to thank and give a shout out to MuseBoat radio for continuing to air my music and keeping me in the top 25. Go to http://museboat.wix.com/multimedia to check out their radio channel.

It Came From ReverbNation #26 - Featuring Diselkopf, Elephant Listening Project, Chris Aguayo, By Far & Beyond, The Zarrs, and Harmut Hillman Band

From April 4th to June 4th The Ripple Effect ran a campaign on the excellent online music website ReverbNation (www.reverbnation.com). This campaign allowed any artist or band registered with ReverbNation to submit their music to The Ripple Effect for possible review on the site and airplay on The Ripple Effect radio shows. When all was said and done we had received 4,799 submissions! Incredible! The purpose of this column is to highlight those artists and bands whose musical submissions I accepted as being worthy of consideration. While these are not reviews per se, I’m going to provide a brief rundown of what to expect from each artist/band, a sample when available, and a link to check out more on their corresponding ReverbNation page.
Dieselkopf – Alright let’s get this column started the right way, with some metal! This distortion drenched group out of Gavle, Sweden aims to pull the heartstrings of anyone into the industrial metal sound. Their submission reeked of White Zombie, and it sounded fantastic! The lyrical content about the corruptive force that is money didn’t hurt either. Similar artists besides the aforementioned White Zombie include Pitchshifter, Rammstein, and Ministry. Rock out people!

Elephant Listening Project – This San Francisco, CA quartet played a dirty trick on me. Their submission, along with the two other songs you can listen to on their ReverbNation page, were labled demos. With that label attached I expected to hear something rough around the edges. When each of these songs sounded just as good as anything I’ve bought recently I was rather shocked! Speaking of those three songs, they each offer up some serious melodic rock with nice hooks that will get stuck in your mind whether you like it or not. Oh, did I mention that the band is made up of former members of Montrose, The Coup, The Mo’fessionals, and Chrome Johnson? Well it is.

Chris Aguayo – This gentleman from Coplay, PA plays rock music with progressive flourishes. He plays everything you hear on his recordings, and impressively the songs do not sound disjointed at all. In fact, until I read that he played everything himself I would have sworn it was a full band. Everything flows well and sounds great. Similar artists include Muse, The Beatles, and U2.

By Far & Beyond – Being a child of the 1980s there are times when I find myself missing the sound of new wave music and synth pop. Lucky for me there are artists like this gentleman from Portsmouth, UK who clearly feel the same way. His submission was piano/synth driven rock at its finest. Other songs I listened to maintained the synth-heavy nature but added other musical influences to the mix such as 90s alt rock. Similar artists include Muse, Depeche Mode, and Anberlin.

The ZARRS – For those of you looking for a current band with that classic rock/pop rock sound this one is for you! This six member band from London, UK sounds great and their music really backs up their claim of being “ultra-accessible”. Similar artists include Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, The Doors, and Kasabian.

Hartmut Hillman Band – Waveriders, you must check out this guy’s ReverbNation page to see his photo. He looks incredibly intense, as if he wants to dismember the photographer! Once you’ve seen the photo you can understand why I thought I would be listening to some heavy metal. Thus when the music began and I heard this Latin flavored jazz fusion number, my mind took a minute to connect the dots. The bottom line is that this man from Gross-Gerau, DE is one very talented bass player! If you need a fusion infusion in your life, and you know you do, this is where to look! Similar artists include Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, and Marcus Miller.

Just wanted to give a quick update for whats going to be happening in the next few weeks and months.
I have a lot of finished and unfinished material, but with studying jazz performance at Moravian College it has been tough to find enough time to lock myself into the studio for more than a few hours at a time. Over the next few weeks, I plan to track 3 brand new instrumental songs (well, one of them is brand new, but none of them have been heard by anyone but myself) and hopefully have it all mixed and mastered in early 2013. There is no particular reason why I am releasing all instrumental tracks this time, it just happened to turn out that way.
In the meantime, please keep supporting by listening and downloading my songs at www.reverbnation.com/chrisaguayo and www.facebook.com/chrisaguayomusic
And stay safe for 12/21 ;)
